About Mieke

Hi, I'm Mieke — here for the whole journey.

Physiotherapist · Dog lover · Food enthusiast

I qualified in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy at Stellenbosch University. I've worked with all kinds of clients across rehabilitation centres, hospitals and the community — but my heart is in adult neurology and geriatrics, walking alongside the elderly and those facing complex neurological conditions. And I can come to you: I offer home visits for clients who struggle with transport or mobility.

How I can help

Gentle, focused care across four areas

Every body is unique — and so is every treatment plan. These are the areas where I can help you most.

Adult neurology physiotherapy — gentle exercise with a Pilates ball

Adult Neurology

Neurological and auto-immune conditions can deeply affect daily life. Physiotherapy helps you keep your independence, ease symptoms, and gives you and your family steady support along the way — even before a formal diagnosis.

Stroke Parkinson's Multiple Sclerosis TBI Dementia Bell's Palsy
Geriatric physiotherapy — an elderly person's gently clasped hands

Geriatrics

With age come changes to posture, balance, endurance and mobility. Gentle, consistent exercise is one of the best ways to keep doing what you love — whether easing joint stiffness or recovering after illness or surgery.

Balance & falls Mobility Strength Post-surgery rehab Joint pain
Sleep health support — a supportive, reassuring hold

Sleep Health

As a representative of the South African Society for Sleep and Health, I help manage the things that disrupt rest — like chronic pain and inflammation. Good sleep is essential for healing, mood and recovery.

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy — a shoulder strengthening exercise

Musculoskeletal

Among the most common and disabling complaints, these affect bones, joints, muscles and connective tissue. I assess and treat each one with techniques chosen specifically for your needs and preferences.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

A few things people often want to know before getting in touch. If your question isn't here, just ask me.

Do you offer home visits?

Yes. I do home visits across the greater Stellenbosch area, especially for clients who struggle with transport or have difficulty with mobility. It's one of my favourite parts of the practice — meeting you where you're most comfortable.

Where is your practice?

I'm based at Nooitgedacht Village, Kromme Rhee Road, Stellenbosch. If getting to me is difficult, I can come to you instead.

What happens in a first session?

We start with an assessment to establish your relevant medical history, what your current complaint is, and what the underlying problem may be. We'll then talk through your goals and agree on a management plan going forward. Every person is unique, so your treatment plan is tailored to your individual needs.

What conditions do you treat?

Adult neurology: stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neuron Disease, dementia (including Alzheimer's, vascular and Lewy Body), Bell's Palsy, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy and Myasthenia Gravis.

Musculoskeletal: frozen shoulder, repetitive strain injuries, sprains, muscle or ligament tears, neck and back pain, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, Achilles tendonitis, sciatica and referred headaches.

I also work extensively in geriatrics and sleep health. Even if you don't yet have a diagnosis, you can benefit from managing your symptoms with therapy.

What techniques do you use?

My rehabilitation approach is largely based on neurodevelopmental treatment and Bobath techniques. I'm also qualified in dry needling, strapping and sports massage, and I present Pilates and hydrotherapy classes. Treatment combines hands-on techniques, exercise, electrotherapy modalities and health education.

Are you registered, and what are your qualifications?

Yes. I'm registered with the HPCSA (PT 0125601) and my practice number is 720000381721. I qualified in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from Stellenbosch University, and have worked in private practice, rehabilitation centres, government clinics and hospitals.

How do I book an appointment?

WhatsApp is the fastest way to reach me, but you're welcome to call or email too. If I'm busy with a session I can't always respond immediately — leave me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
